Nia is a low-impact movement technique, inspired by dance, martial arts, and mindfulness practices. Nia is easily adaptable to all levels of fitness and experience. Ongoing Wednesdays, 5:30-7:30 pm. Feel like a new, fun and challenging hobby? Give Argentine Tango a try. Confirm dates as there is no dancing during breaks.
We will do individual exercises and partner activities to understand this improvisational dance! We will explore various concepts of connection (to oneself, to the music, to the dance partner, to the dance floor, to other social dancers).
Parking is available on campus after 5 pm.
What to wear? If you own a pair of salsa shoes, jazz/ballet flats, or Toms, those work great. If not, bring a thick pair of socks to dance in. Partner Dance? You are welcome to join with or without a partner. Those who come alone will be paired up.

Want to learn tango? Come join the UF Argentine Tango Club for a free beginner tango class. Feel free to join even if you have never danced tango before, there are teachers for whatever level you might be.

In this meeting we will learn basic down - hold footwork and connection and start exploring how to use it to move with our partners. Due to unavailability of the dance studios, the second session will not begin until February 6. From then on we will meet every other week from 4 to 6 pm with an hour for lessons and an hour for practice. If you are unable to attend this first session you are welcome to come at 4 pm on Feb 6 to get a re-cap.
For these lessons please bring shoes that will allow you to slide or else, wear socks. This will not go well for you if your shoes are causing you to grip the floor. We may have a gap of about 3 weeks before the next session, but I highly encourage you to use this time to practice your footwork and get confortable with it, it will make the rest of the semester easier for you. This performance team will be a 3-month choreography course before the first local show. Consequent shows will be all over Florida and possibly out of state! Weekly classes will include training in spins, styling, and body movement exercises. This will be an intensive schedule with a challenging routine. Our goal is to leave you a much better dancer and performer than before and form lasting friendships with your fellow salsa teammates.

Richard Nalli is hosting the January 20th afternoon Vintage Waltz Dance.
Starting at 2 pm there will be a free 15-minute beginning/refresher waltz lesson. All dancers are encouraged to participate and share the Waltz experience with newcomers.
Open dancing to Richard’s select playlist until 5 pm. At 3 pm Richard will offer to teach one intermediate Waltz step (hint- the single-most useful transition step in Waltz and Foxtrot dance).
Every half-hour Richard will play an alternative dance tune, swing, Foxtrot, cha-cha, etc.
Partner not required. The Gainesville Area Waltzers are the nicest dancers anywhere.

Both lead and follow will learn from basic steps of On2 salsa, and how to connect, communicate, and read their partner with On2 salsa footwork and musicality. And then, start learning towards more intermediate moves/footwork.
Participants are encouraged to social dance with all students and instructors for feedback and to practice their new skills at the end of each class. Participants will be expected to watch the homework assignments and practice footwork outside of class. You only get out what you are willing to put in.

Want to learn tango? Come join the UF Argentine Tango Club for a free beginner tango class. Feel free to join even if you have never danced tango before, there are teachers for whatever level you might be.
Who: Everyone can come. The beginner class is geared for people who have never danced before or who want to practice the basics. The intermediate class is for those who have been to at least some classes and is for you if you feel ready and confident enough to learn some new steps. Wed 30 Jan 2019, 7:30-9 pm. This 6 week progressive course will ingrain the fundamentals of On2 salsa.
Both lead and follow will learn from basic steps of On2 salsa, and how to connect, communicate, and read their partner with On2 salsa footwork and musicality. And then, start learning towards more intermediate moves/footwork.
Participants are encouraged to social dance with all students and instructors for feedback and to practice their new skills at the end of each class. Participants will be expected to watch the homework assignments and practice footwork outside of class. You only get out what you are willing to put in.
