At Jackson Dance Lab (50 Talbot Ave. Medford, MA) Monday, December 06 7:00 pm Tufts Dance professors Gregory Coles, Gretchen Hayden, Daniel Swain, and Mila Thigpen present dance demonstrations in African Dance, Kathak, Hip Hop, and Salsa at World Dance Night. Dance faculty and their students will share dance and information about the cultures in which they are working.
This December marks the first of what may become regular world dance events for the Tufts dance curriculum. Students in these Tufts dance classes have spent the semester learning cultural, historic, and aesthetic aspects of the dance forms. World Dance Night is the culmination of these courses, offering a glimpse into the rich movement material covered throughout the semester. The public is invited to experience the syncopation and rhythms of salsa, the energy of African Dance, the complex footwork of Indian dance, and the isolations of hip hop.
